CARDIAC CATHETERIZATION LABORATORY
PROJECT DIRECTIVE
This renovation project aimed to modernize the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab) to support advanced interventional cardiology services while ensuring uninterrupted patient care. The primary directive was to upgrade clinical capabilities, improve safety features, and enhance staff workflows within the high-acuity environment of a 24/7 cardiac care unit. The scope of work included replacing aging imaging equipment with state-of-the-art fluoroscopy systems, reconfiguring procedure rooms for improved ergonomics, and updating control rooms, scrub areas, and storage. Infection prevention, noise and dust mitigation, and strict adherence to life safety codes were critical considerations due to the Cath Lab’s proximity to occupied patient care areas. Close coordination between cardiology leadership, biomedical engineering, infection control, and facilities management ensured that services remained operational throughout phased construction.
DELIVERY
The Cath Lab renovation was delivered on schedule and within budget, with little impact to scheduled patient procedures. The modernized lab features new ceiling-mounted imaging equipment, ergonomic procedure room layouts, upgraded finishes, and enhanced lighting to support precise interventions. Staff areas, including the control room and scrub zones, were optimized for efficiency and infection control, while storage capacity was expanded to improve supply management. All construction activities were completed in compliance with infection prevention standards, minimizing disruptions to adjacent clinical areas. The result is a state-of-the-art Cath Lab environment that supports advanced cardiac care, enhances staff workflow, and elevates the patient experience.
